When Dan Bock sent in his $250 entry fee to the Midwest Kick-Off Classic bowling tournament, he knew he would be going up against the very best in the business.

Little did he know it would be himself who set the bar higher than anyone imagined and he would be the one holding the plus-sized trophy at the end of the three-day tournament.

He's also $7,500 richer.

The Albert Lea, Minn., native defeated Eric Vermilyea, 257-189, after an impressive overall tournament.

Bock bowled 20 games this past weekend and only shot one game below 200.

"I tend to try to stay within my own game," he said. "I can't stop anyone else. There's no defense, so I throw my shots and try to bowl as best as I can, and, fortunately, I got in the lead early today, and I just stayed in first and carried it all the way to the end."

And what an end it was.
