That's exactly what Kris Geister of Bloomington and Lisa Noor of Spring Park did recently.

        Competing in the Mpls. Women's City Tournament, at AMF Maple Lanes in Fridley, Geister and Noor established a Minnesota Women's state doubles mark by 40 pins.

         Geister posted games of 243-289-235 for a 767 series.  Noor anchored with games of 238-237-279 for a 754 total.  Those series gave them a record score of 1,521.

         It broke the old state mark of 1,481 posted by Deb Lantto and Noor in the 2001 Minnesota's State Women's Tourney in St. Cloud.

         Noor set another record in the same meet when she posted a nine-game all events score of 2,222 to better the 2,092 mark set by Deanna Hanson in the 2002 Minnesota State Women's Tourney at Drkula's 32 Bowl in South St. Paul.  Her other totals in the Women's City Meet were 730 (239-265-226) and 738 (232-269-237).

 

Pohl Wins Minnesota Masters

         Scott Pohl of Burnsville spilled 2,900 pins and averaged 223 for 13 games of qualifying and match play to capture the 27th annual Minnesota Masters bowling tournament at Cedarvale Lanes in Eagan a week ago.

         He finished fourth in the eight game qualifying round with a 1,742 pin count.  He then proceeded to down five opponents while averaging 231 to post a 5-0 record and claim the title.  He received $950 for the victory plus $500 as a paid entry into the USBC Masters in October and a $50 Championship Trophy.

         Pohl defeated Tom Havlish of Fridley by a 203-197 score in the finals of the winners bracket.  Havlish stopped Matt Schleppenbach of St. Cloud in the final of the losers bracket by a 237-165 score.

         Needing to win two single games to claim the title, Havlish lost again to Pohl in the title match, 217-205.  Havlish was 16th in qualifying with a 1,652 score and finished the meet with a 5-2 record and average of 216.  He earned $675 for the meet and a $50 runner-up trophy.

         Daron Hansen of Crystal was the qualifying leader with a 1,770 score (221 average) and finished 19th, losing his first two matches.  He won $100 for being the qualifying leader.  Richard Vitco of Montrose had the top single game of the meet, a 279, with Clark Poelzer of Arden Hills posting the second highest game of 270.

         The tournament drew 91 entries, third highest in the past eight years.  There were 103 entries an 1999 at Drkula's  in South St. Paul and 95 in 2004 at AMF Earle Brown Lanes in Brooklyn Center.

     

McNeil, T. Schacht win Triple Crowns

        Matt McNeil of Chanhassen and Terry Schacht of Oakdale walked off with top honors in the two On Track Triple Crown races.  McNeil, who finished fifth in the Minnesota Masters, claimed the title in the On Track "Triple Crown" race with a record score of seven.  He had earlier won both the Minneapolis and St. Paul Masters titles.

         Al Loth of Arden Hills finished as runner-up with 22 points, followed by Clark Poelzer with 33, Tom Korth of Mankato 40 and Ron Lindner of Mayer with 45.

        Havlish was the top senior in the Minnesota Masters and moved from sixth to a tie with Korth for runnerup honors. Each had 25 points.  Gary Arntzen of Prior Lake and Loth tied for fourth with 28 points.

 

6 Seek Team USA Births

      Headed by Pohl and Amanda Burgoyne of Newport, six Minnesota bowlers will seek births on the Team USA for 2006-07 when they compete in qualifying in Reno, Nev. on Jan. 8-12.  Pohl was a Team USA member the past season and Burgoyne, a senior at the University of Nebraska, has been a member the past three years.

         Others seeking births are Ben Goede, Matt McNeil, Kyle Bischoff and Eric Vermilyea.
