12th Annual St. Paul Mixed Team Challenge

The Limited Average Mixed Team Challenge was held on December 14th at Drkula’s 32 Bowl in Inver Grove Heights. This tournament is all Baker Format style of bowling where the first bowler bowls the 1st and 6th frames, the second bowler bowls the 2nd and 7th frames and so forth. This year we had 32 teams in the tournament (32 lane center). The top prize of $600.00 for first place was not the only thing the teams were shooting for as we ran brackets during qualifying rounds and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals were awarded for First, Second and Third respectively. Thanks to all who participated in brackets we were able to have some nice payouts to our teams and were also able to cover our expenses.

During qualifying competition the highest game bowled was a 275 by Just Follow Anybody in Game 6. Of the 32 teams, in the 10 games of qualifying, the lowest game was a 122 bowled in the 4th game. Drkula’s #1 lead the qualifying round with an average of 197.7 in 10 games. The average to cash was 182.9 and the average to advance to match play was 187.7. Also during qualifying there was a prize of $125.00 for the first team to bowl a 300. Since that feat was not accomplished, we held a drawing for the non-cashing teams. The $125.00 went to Katie’s Bombers.

At the end of match play, the team of We are Five was in first place, Drkula’s #3 was in second and Drkula’s #1 was in third.

In the stepladder finals, Drkula’s #3 bowled games of 183 and 171 for a total of 354 and Drkula’s #1 bowled games of 200 and 179 for a total of 379 and advanced to the final championship match.  In the finals, Drkula’s #1 bowled games of 163 and 173 for a total of 336 and We Are Five bowled games of 161 and 188 for a total of 349 to win the 12th Annual St. Paul Mixed Team Challenge.

At this time we would like to congratulate the team members of We Are Five: George Kreyer Jr., Barb Kreyer, Gary Salzman Jr, Shanna Salzman and Andrea Carlson for their victory.

Thank you to all the bowlers who participated. Additionally, we would also like to thank Midway Pro Bowl, Mikes Pro Shop, On Track Pro Shop, Pearson’s Candy and the Bowling Proprietors Association for their assistance in making this tournament a success.

The 13th annual St. Paul Mixed Team Challenge is being planned for December 12, 2009 at a Mattie’s Bowl and will be open to the first 32 paid entries.
